Investigate the intersection of science and culture at curioCITY, our high school teen only event hosted by The Field Museum’s Youth Council. Run by teens, for teens, curioCITY is a career exploration program for high school students. curioCITY brings a Field Museum scientist together with a cultural professional for a conversation about the pathway that lead them to their current career. The conversation is moderated by Youth Council teens, and is followed by a Q&A with the audience. This program seeks to expand a young person’s perceptions of the careers available to them and encourages them to explore diverse opportunities.

Join us for an afternoon of conversation and explore a variety of career pathways. Each session we’ll explore a new a new aspect of science and culture. Register for an upcoming curioCITY!

Do I need to register for the event?

Yes, high school students must individually register in order to attend the event.

How do I get to The Field Museum?

The Field Museum is accessible by public transportation, car or bike. The closest CTA Train stop is the Roosevelt Red/Orange/Green station. The #146 -Inner Drive/Michigan Express/Museum Campus bus picks up outside  the Roosevelt station  and drops off in front of The Field Museum.  It is approximately a 15 minute walk to the Museum  from the CTA station. Paid parking is available in the Soldier Field garage. Two Divvy stations are available at the Museum near the South and East entrances.

Who may attend the event?

This event is for high school students in grades 9-12. No exceptions can be made.

I’m a parent or guardian, what may I do while my teen attends curioCITY?

Parents and Guardians may purchase a ticket to the Museum or walk around Museum Campus. Multiple coffee shops and restaurants are located near the Roosevelt CTA station. High School youth participating in curioCITY will receive free basic admission to the museum after the event.

I’m an afterschool provider, how do I register my group for curioCITY?

We do not provide for group registration. Youth interested in attending curioCITY need to register individually and meet the age/grade criteria to attend (9-12th grades).

I’m a parent, may my middle schooler attend curioCITY?

This is an event only for high school students in 9-12th grades. However, we do offer other opportunities for middle school youth. Please see our Teens and Tweens page for more information.

I love curioCITY and want to get more involved, how do I do that?

Great! Stop by and say hello to our friendly Youth Council members (they are the ones in the red shirts at all of the events). We’d love to get to know you and hear your ideas for speakers for curioCITY!

Another way you can get more involved is by applying for The Field Museum’s Youth Council who help plan and host four curioCITY’s per year. This year long commitment will allow you to engage deeply with the Museum, meet other teens across the city, and provide you the chance to have greater agency for the youth voice in the Museum. Applications open in late summer early fall. Be in the know by visiting
